BPN about Rwanda
Accelerated progress despite dark clouds in the past: Rwanda is a small country in the heart of Africa frequently referred to as the Switzerland of Arica as both countries are known to be clean and safe. Nothing characterizes the Rwandan culture more than its warm hospitality.
Paradine, Furniture workshop in Rwanda
Paradine has always had a flair for furniture. But turn your hobby into your profession? She couldn’t really imagine that. At some point, however, the young woman had to set the course for her future – and finally decided to set up a furniture workshop. «BPN has always accompanied me on this personal and business journey, for which I am very grateful,» she says.

Rwanda is still recovering from the 1994 genocide that destroyed the country in which the Hutu attempted to eradicate the country of the entire Tutsi population. Rwandans were quick to come to terms with this tragedy and worked incredibly hard to reestablish the society and economy. They also practice exemplary environmental awareness: polythene bags have been banned and waste is conscientiously sorted. All the same, more than 60% of the population live below the poverty line. Rwanda has a total area of only 26,338 km² (Switzerland, in comparison, 41’285 km²) but is home to more than 12 million people. Rwanda is called ‘The Land of a Thousand Hills’ due to its highlands and plateaus. The average elevation is 1,500m above sea level with the highest point at Mount Karisimbi (4,507 meters above sea level) only slightly lower than the highest Swiss mountain peak. The climate is mild but humid and the flora is fertile with its own variety of fauna and biodiversity. It is ‘Africa’ in the smallest dimensions.
